Eligibility & Restrictions
.br is the country-code namespace for Brazil. It is not directly registrable at the second level. Registrations happen only at the third level under defined sub-namespaces such as com.br, net.br, org.br, ind.br, and others. See the individual sub-TLD entries for registration details.
Foreign company registration takes weeks due to notarisation requirements. All documents must be certified by Brazilian Consulate in company's home country.
Registration
See third-level sub-TLDs (com.br, net.br, org.br, ind.br, etc.).
Transfer Procedure

N/A β see third-level sub-TLDs.
π ICANN ERRP β See ICANN ERRP for RGP details and standard restore fees.
WHOIS / Privacy
GDPR not available. Full registrant data publicly visible. Registry validates registrant name, company name, and address against Brazilian Federal Revenue data.
π ICANN Registration Data Policy β See Registration Data Policy for RDP 2025, RDAP, redaction defaults, and privacy/proxy rules.

N/A. Brazil not subject to EU NIS2.
π NIS2 Compliance β See NIS2 Compliance for Article 28 requirements, registry implementation status, and operational impact.
Known Error Codes & Notes
- CPF/CNPJ conflict: CPF/CNPJ already used with another registrar = registration fails. Must transfer Owner contact at registry portal first.
- Portal transfer only: No auth code. Transfer entirely portal-based at registro.br.
- UTF-8 required: Street and city names with accents must be submitted in UTF-8.
