Eligibility & Restrictions

Open to anyone worldwide. No residency requirement. Government-issued ID number mandatory: NIF/NIE for individuals, CIF for companies. For individuals: registrant and admin contact must match.

Registration

Registry allows up to 5 years. We currently offer 1 year. No money-back grace period.

Domains deleted 12 days BEFORE expiry date (not on expiry date). Auto-renew must be set at least 26 days before expiry.

Transfer Procedure

Standard auth code transfer. .es family has supported auth codes since the registry update. Transfer does NOT include a 1-year renewal. Verify with current registry documentation.

Registrant Change

TRADE is semi-automated: both current and new admin contacts must log into ESNIC registry portal and upload photo ID. Both must have ESNIC portal accounts. Registry emails admin contacts to approve/deny. Must use correct Accredited Registrar ID.

Renewal & Deletion

Domains deleted 12 days BEFORE expiry date. Redemption requires ~$250 USD fee. After deletion for non-payment (9 days): domain available for re-registration immediately, no RGP.

Restore / Redemption Grace Period

Known Error Codes & Notes

Procedimiento de Cancelación: In WHOIS: registrant verification failed. Domain about to be deleted, cannot be recovered.
Early deletion: Domains deleted 12 days BEFORE expiry. Not on the expiry date.
No auth code: Transfer uses email approval only. No EPP auth code.
Wrong Registrar ID: Wrong Accredited Registrar ID in system causes desynchronisation during trade process.
Registrant verification: Registry emails admin contact; 10-day window to verify; failure = domain stops resolving, then deleted after 30 days.
