Eligibility & Restrictions
Registrant must be from EU/EEA (European Economic Area): EU member states + Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland. No residency beyond EU/EEA required. No local address requirement within France.
Registration
1-10 years. 4-day money-back grace period after registration.
Transfer Procedure
Auth code required. Transfer completes with auth code only. No additional approval email. Registrant name, email, or company change triggers COR process: both previous and new registrant must authorise.
COR process can trigger 60-day transfer lock after registrant field change. Sequence: transfer first, then change registrant to avoid lock before transfer.
📘 ICANN Transfer Policy (IRTP) — See ICANN Transfer Policy for the full IRTP framework, auth code rules, 60-day lock periods, and TEAC.
Registrant Change
COR required if registrant Name, Email, or Company field modified. Both prior and new registrant must explicitly authorise. Failure to authorise: change cancelled and WHOIS reverts.
📘 ICANN OwnerChange (COR) — See ICANN OwnerChange for COR triggers, FOA/DA modes, 60-day lock, and opt-out.
Renewal & Deletion
Standard renewal. 4-day money-back grace period.
📘 ICANN ERRP — See ICANN ERRP for the standard gTLD expiry lifecycle (Auto-Renew Grace → RGP → Pending Delete → Released).
Restore / Redemption Grace Period
Standard RGP applies.
📘 ICANN ERRP — See ICANN ERRP for RGP details and standard restore fees.
WHOIS / Privacy
Individuals: contact info automatically hidden in WHOIS (GDPR masking by contact type). Organisations: full data public. GDPR masking NOT supported at registry level for organisations. Registrant country must be EU/EEA; admin contact country unrestricted.
📘 ICANN Registration Data Policy — See Registration Data Policy for RDP 2025, RDAP, redaction defaults, and privacy/proxy rules.
NIS2 Compliance
AFNIC operates under French NIS2 transposition. Standard obligations apply.
📘 NIS2 Compliance — See NIS2 Compliance for Article 28 requirements, registry implementation status, and operational impact.
Known Error Codes & Notes
- Non-EU/EEA registrant: Registration rejected if registrant country is not EU/EEA.
- COR lock: Changing registrant name/org/email triggers 60-day transfer lock. Transfer first, then change registrant.
- No SIRET required: SIRET/birth date no longer mandatory since AFNIC policy change.
