User Management & Subusers
Creating subusers, assigning permissions, and managing access in AutoDNS
AutoDNS supports subuser accounts with granular permissions. This allows you to delegate domain management tasks to team members or clients without sharing your main account credentials.
Creating a Subuser
- Account → User Management → Create User.
- Enter username, email, and initial password for the new subuser.
- Assign a role or configure custom permissions (see below).
- The subuser receives login credentials. They can log in at
login.autodns.comand select the appropriate context.
Permissions
- Domain management
- Create, transfer, renew, delete domains. Assignable per subuser.
- DNS management
- Edit zone files, manage DNS records. Can be granted without domain management rights.
- Contact management
- Create and edit contact handles. Required for domain registration.
- SSL management
- Order, renew, and manage SSL certificates.
- Billing access
- View invoices, payment history, and pricing. Restrict for non-financial users.
- User management
- Create and manage other subusers. Grant only to administrators.
⚠ Apply the principle of least privilege. Grant only the permissions each subuser needs. A subuser with full domain management rights can register, transfer, and delete domains. Restrict carefully.
API Access for Subusers
Subusers can authenticate to the API with their own credentials. The same permissions apply via API as via the web interface. Each subuser's API calls are logged separately for audit purposes.
Deactivating a Subuser
- Deactivate
- Account → User Management → select user → Deactivate. Login is blocked immediately. Domain and DNS assignments remain but the user cannot access them.
- Delete
- Permanently removes the subuser. Reassign any domains or zones managed exclusively by this user before deletion.
